Suzuki String School of Guelph
Suzuki String School of Guelph follow the teaching approach of Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, also called the "Mother Tongue" approach.
Student generally start lesson between the ages of 3 and 6 years old. Parents attend the lessons and practise with their children at home on a daily basis. Students listen to a recording of the music they will play and first learn by ear. Once they are comfortable with their instrument and can play well, students are taught how to read music. The Suzuki Method is a success oriented step-by-step approach. When a student has mastered a step, then he/she moves on to the next step.
Students have weekly private lessons and regular group lessons. As they get more advanced, they also receive Rhythmic Reading classes, orchestra and chamber music. Each student performs in solo recitals, graduation recitals and large group concerts every year. The school also offers master-classes for advanced students. It has a touring program which has taken students to Alberta, Newfoundland and Labrador, Quebec, Manitoba, the United States of America, France and Poland.
Suzuki String School of Guelph is based at the Guelph Youth Music Centre, Guelph's premiere facility of the teaching and performance of music and other arts.
Lessons are offered in English and French
