North American Black Historical Museum

277 King Street, Amherstburg , ON
The focus is on the southern United States through to eastern Canada, and specifically the activity of the Underground Railroad which culminated in the Great Lakes region bordering the two countries. The location of the Museum is key; Amherstburg meant freedom, as the Canadian destination for many Blacks escaping slavery in the United States. The Museum encompasses features inherent to its location, including an original residence and church of former slaves, toward its mandate to acquire, preserve, interpret, research and exhibit a collection of objects of historical and cultural value.
