The Regional Municipality of Durham
The Regional Municipality of Durham borders the City of Toronto and is part of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), the most populous and heavily urbanized region of Canada.
Consisting of the cities of Oshawa and Pickering, the towns of Ajax and Whitby, the municipality of Clarington and the townships of Brock, Scugog and Uxbridge, Durham is characterized by urban lakeshore communities to the south, and rural farms, rolling hills, and a diversity of small towns, hamlets and villages to the north. The rural and urban areas are interwoven through a common commitment to maintaining a rich quality of life. This commitment is reflected in an array of cultural celebrations, rich histories, beautiful waterfront areas, trails and parks, thriving heritage downtowns, and an array of recreation opportunities.
