Kamloops Classic Swimming
The Greater Kamloops Aquatic Club was originally formed as a diving club in the summer of 1947. Interested children took part in free diving lessons with John Henderson at Centennial Pool. On Aug. 13, 1947 the Club was host to its first competition that included diving, swimming and surfboard riding events. The Club continued hosting similar events annually for eleven years. The Club became a registered society in March 1972. Its name and constitution were amended in 1993. The Society is now known as the Kamloops Aquatics Club.
Kamloops Classic Swimming has evolved over the past sixty-four years, beginning as a diving club, to a powerful summer club then into a year-round competitive club operating several successful divisions. In 1990, with the Canada Games only three years away, the Executive laid out an aggressive plan to build the year-round program.
Our "Olympic Way" Learn to Swim program teaches 5 to 12 year olds the 4 basic strokes and endurance swimming. the program is a stepping-stone to our Competitive Classics Swim Club. We have grown from a small Swimming Natation Canada Program of twenty-three swimmers to one of the leading competitive swimming programs in B. C. We have swimmers competing successfully at Provincial, National and International levels. Swim to Win" is our motto!
