When people go those extra miles to visit us, they'll find that we at Wiens are eager to go the extra mile for them. A drive through open prairie brings one to the thriving town of Niverville, population approximately 3000(and growing), and home of Wiens Furniture, now in business for 72 years. Wiens Furniture had its start in 1939 when Jacob S. Wiens sold appliances out of a hardware store. His son, Jake Wiens bought the business in 1963, discontinued the hardware lines but kept appliances and added furniture. Wife Rita sold sewing machines and draperies and when microwaves came on the scene, taught microwave cooking classes out of the store. Jake is fondly remembered by customers for his colorful personality and traditional sales methods and to this day, many of these same customers and their families (to the third and even fourth generation), return to Wiens Furniture from all over Manitoba and northern Ontario to purchase their home furnishings. A fire in 1989 burned the business to the ground however the store was rebuilt that same year at the same Main Street location. In 1991, Jake retired and sold the business to his sons Al and Paul. Currently Wiens Furniture is managed by Al Wiens and carries furniture, appliances, and sleep sets. Al and Ruby's sons Dylan and Brendan are presently active in the business. At Wiens Furniture, our commitment to excellent customer service, and an eye towards current trends contributes to the continued growth of the business.
